Smith-Gilbert Gardens
While Erin was in chiropractic school in George, I often found myself looking for small local places to explore with her while visiting. Smith-Gilbert Gardens in Kennesaw was one of those discoveries. Tucked quietly within the city, the gardens offer a peaceful retreat filled with winding pathways, artistic sculptures and beautifully designed garden spaces as you walk through the property.

The gardens were created by Richard Smith, who spent decades transforming the grounds surrounding his home into a living work of art. Over time, the property grew into a botanical collection featuring thousands of plant species, Japanese maples, rose gardens, woodland trails and carefully arranged garden rooms. Each section has its own character, making the experience less like a formal museum and more like a personal landscape.
One of the things that makes Smith-Gilbert Gardens enjoyable is the way sculpture is woven throughout the landscape. Around corners and along pathways, there are artistic pieces that blend naturally into the gardens. The sculptures add another layer as art and nature interact with one another.
The brick home sits quietly within the landscape, framed by flowers and trees. Here is a place designed for quiet exploration and the small discoveries often become some of the most lasting memories.
