Pleasant View and Mary Baker Eddy

After her earlier years in Concord, Mary Baker Eddy’s story moves here: Pleasant View. This is where everything changes

In 1889, she moved to this property, and it became more than a residence. This was the center of her work during the most influential period of her life. From here, she led and organized the Church of Christ, Scientist, guiding it from a developing movement into a structured and growing institution.

The scale of this property reflects that shift. Unlike her earlier home, Pleasant View was designed to support students, staff, correspondence and constant communication. People came here to learn, to consult, and to be part of what was expanding beyond Concord and into a national, and eventually international presence.

During this time here, which lasted until 1908, she oversaw the growth of her church, continued writing, and maintained a strong role in directing its teaching and organization. Even though Boston would become the official headquarters, Pleasant View remained the operational part of her work during these years.
