Park in Itapetininga – Brazil
When we traveled to Brazil, we had the opportunity to teach in the town of Itapetininga, a place that reflects a quieter and more traditional side of the country. While it may not be widely known, it has a history that connects to an important period in Brazil’s development.
Itapetininga was founded in the late 1700s, during a time when the interior of Sao Paulo state was being explored and settled. One of the most interesting aspects of its history is its connection to the tropeiros, traveling traders who moved cattle, goods and supplies across long distances in Brazil before the development of railroads.
These routes passed through towns like Itapetininga, making it a stop along important inland trade paths. In many ways, towns like this helped connect different parts of the country, supporting the growth of agriculture and commerce in the region.
