Palacio de Bellas Artes – Mexico
For my 65th birthday, Erin surprised me with a trip to Mexico City. Erin and I have traveled the world together, and this was another journey we were able to share, one more place added to the long list of experiences we have created side by side.
Here we are outside the Palacio de Bellas Artes, a striking building in the middle of the city, its white marble exterior and colorful dome rising above the busy streets. Even in a city as large and active as Mexico City, this building stands apart.
The palace was begun in the early 1900s, during a time when Mexico was looking outward and embracing European design. Construction was interrupted for years during the Mexican Revolution, and when it was finally completed, the interior reflected a newer, more modern style. The result is a building that blends two periods.
The building is not just beautiful it represents Mexico’s commitment to art and culture. Inside are murals that tell the story of the country, created by some of its most important artists.
The best part of this trip was exploring this city with Erin and continuing a lifetime of traveling, learning and experiencing the world together
