Palacio de Bellas Artes
For my 65th birthday, Erin surprised me with a trip to Mexico City. Erin and I have traveled the world together, and this was another journey we were able to share, one more place added to the long list of experiences we have created side by side.
Here we are outside the Palacio de Bellas Artes, a striking building in the middle of the city, its white marble exterior and colorful dome rising above the busy streets. Even in a city as large and active as Mexico City, this building stands apart.

The palace was begun in the early 1900s, during a time when Mexico was looking outward and embracing European design. Construction was interrupted for years during the Mexican Revolution, and when it was finally completed, the interior reflected a newer, more modern style. The result is a building that blends two periods.
The building is not just beautiful it represents Mexico’s commitment to art and culture. Inside are murals that tell the story of the country, created by some of its most important artists.
The best part of this trip was exploring this city with Erin and continuing a lifetime of traveling, learning and experiencing the world together

All of them are special, but the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal is one of the most extraordinary churches I have visited. Built between 1824 and 1829, the basilica is a masterpiece of Gothic […]
Roman Ruins
We visited the Roman ruins of Jerash on a rainy day, just outside Amman. Jerash is often described as one of the most complete Roman cities still standing, and its Roman timeline is what gives the site its clarity. The city came under Roman control in 63 BCE, when the region was incorporated into the Roman […]
Government Palace
On our walking tour through Helsinki, we passed this stately yellow facade of the Government Palace. This building has been at the center of Finnish government for over two centuries. Designed in the early 1800s, the building was originally constructed when Finland was under Russian rule. It was first used by the Imperial Senate of Finland, making it one […]
