Pico do Ferro Furnas
Located on the island of Sao Miguel Island, Pico do Ferro is one of the most famous viewpoints in the Azores and overlooks the Furnas Valley.
Everywhere you drive in the Azores is green. There are overlooks, winding roads, hydrangeas, and stunning ocean views. The islands seem almost suspended between Europe and the Atlantic Ocean, shaped by volcanic activity, forests, lakes and dramatic coastlines.
The viewpoint at Pico do Ferro looks out over the Fumas region, an area famous for its volcanic landscape, geothermal activity, hot springs and crater lake. Steam rises from the earth in places throughout the valley, reminding us that these islands were formed through volcanic forces deep beneath the Atlantic.
