Montego Bay, Jamaica

Montego Bay is the second largest city in Jamaica and one of the Caribbean’s most famous destinations. Nestled along the northwestern coast, the is framed by the sparking waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Montego Bay’s history dates back to the Spanish colonial period when it was known as Bahía de Manteca, or “Lard Bay,” because pork and other goods were exported from its harbor. Under British rule, the city became an important port for the sugar trade, and many of the plantations that shaped Jamaica’s economy were located in the surrounding countryside. In the twentieth century, Montego Bay transformed itself into one of the Caribbean’s leading tourist destinations, attracting visitors from around the world with its beaches, resorts, and vibrant culture.

Montego Bay is a place where history, culture and natural beauty come together, and the city serves as the gateway to much of Jamaica.
