Minuteman Monument
Along the quiet shoreline of Westborough’s Minutemen Park stands this large granite memorial honoring the men from the town who answered the alarm on April 19, 1775 – the opening day of the American Revolution. The monument creates a reflective place to remember how ordinary citizens suddenly became soldiers at one of the most pivotal moments in American history.
This memorial was dedicated in 2025 as part of the nationwide observance of the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the American Revolution. Communities throughout Massachusetts marked this milestone by recognizing the local men and militia companies that participated in the first day of fighting.
The plaque commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the park and lists the names of the Westborough men who marched in response to the battles of Lexington and Concord. These were farmers, tradesmen, laborers and fathers who left their homes with little notice when word spread that British troops were advancing toward Concord. Like so many Massachusetts towns, Westborough became part of the network of communities that helped shape the earliest resistance of the Revolution.
This peaceful park now preserves the memory of those individuals and reminds visitors that the Revolution began in towns like Westborough.
