St Joseph Church
Tucked quietly along the border of Lincoln and Weston, St. Joseph Church is easy to pass without a second glance. Yet this modest white chapel tells the story of a changing New England community and the families who made it their spiritual home for more than a century.
The church was established in 1906 to serve the growing Catholic population of Lincoln and Weston. For nearly three centuries after these towns were founded, there had been no local Catholic church. Early residents were primarily descendants of the original English settlers, and Catholic families traveled to neighboring communities to attend Mass. As Irish, French Canadian, Italian, and other Catholic families settled in the area during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the need for a local parish became increasingly apparent.
Unlike the grand stone churches found in Boston, St. Joseph was built as a simple country chapel. Its white clapboard exterior, steep roof, and stained-glass windows reflect the character of the surrounding communities. Inside, exposed timber trusses, polished wooden floors, and rows of handcrafted pews create a warm and peaceful space that has welcomed generations of worshippers.
Over the years, the church has witnessed countless baptisms, weddings, funerals, and celebrations of faith. The building continues to serve the purpose for which it was originally built, providing a place of worship for the Catholic families of Lincoln and Weston.
